The Essence of Natural Health is what we take into ourselves. Is what we are consuming good for us? We must ask this question and answer it honestly. What we often don't consider is the fact that what we consume is not one dimensional. We consume with all of our senses and on a multitude of levels. A part of Community Health and Wellness is Literary Therapy. This is the practice of being aware of what you are reading and watching or 'consuming' with the brain, mind and emotions. An amazing phenomenon happens when you take on an excercise regimine. It's been documented that the appearance of a person changes as soon as they sign the gym membership and don the new workout clothes. They stand taller, appear more fit and even seem slimmer and more toned. How is this possible? This is the power of the mind in action. You are what you think. The first step of wellness is the admission that you are well. The body is in the process of detoxing something out of it&

How Dare You Interfere with My Right To a Healthy Life! "...A part of me never left my home in the heavens.....a part of me has left my home, It has traveled here in your souls..." A Lady of The Sky from The Passion of my Spirit by Asabi A. Hunter 2015. This excerpt from my poem A Lady of The Sky, came to my mind as I finally found a way to state something I need to address in a recent retreat. I have long struggled with people trying to negate the validity of my fight for the environment as a "black' person, or person of color. My issue is not that I have any doubt that what I feel called to do is what I should be doing. I do find myself wondering how to address people who do not see the direct and profound connection between people and their environment or habitat. 1st people as I often refer to people of African descent around the world, in particular need to understand that before there were any other people it was our job to make sure the earth

As a parent, you try to prepare your children for living safely in the world. When they are young you warn about the dangers of crossing the street without looking, not washing your hands and failing to brush your teeth. As they get closer to college age and the big 18 you want them to know the types of people they may run into who want to hurt them, abuse them or steal from them. If you're like me you are always trying to balance the dire warnings with the stories of great things that happen daily in our world like acts of heroism between strangers and neighbors or how you met and kept lifelong friends. Are you being as conscientious with preparing your children to deal with the new reality of our environment? There are days when it is too dangerous to breathe outside. On these orange and red alert days what do protective parents do to protect their young ones? Mommies keep hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes in their purses to wipe germs from dirty hands wherever they are

Telling Our Stories Unity can be an elusive concept. We live in a free country. We have the freedom to think and act independently to a large degree. When trying to get to know one another this often looks like learning another culture. In a way that is exactly what it is. Each of our households contains it's own culture. This culture is cultivated by the personalities and choices of those within the household; Parent (s) , parent's close companions, relatives and support systems, religious beliefs , practices and institutions, economic, social and racial demographics, etc and etc. The combinations of circumstances and lifestyle choices that influence us are endless! Thus our personalities which are already unique are further molded by all these combinations thus they are different , varied and often poles apart from each other. How will you ever know mine unless you listen to my stories? How will I ever know yours unless I listen to your stories? How will we learn

Queen WEM Wem descended the steps of the international state house with care. The stone steps were slippery with toxic rain. It was clear out now, brilliant stars that seemed too close winking from patches of the sky, the gray sky. Even at night the grayness remained. A man approached and her guard tightened their formation around her. "Your Majesty-- her head of security queried asking if she knew the man, if he should be allowed to approach in that simple sounding query. she knew without looking that his hand was on his weapon. She stopped walking, both signaling The stranger would be allowed to approach and halting his progress with her action. He would never make it past the guards leading her party. Awkward with the realization that he was being held at bay by armed guards--Wem noted that he was quick to recover and smiled at her, a self assured smile that almost made her want to smile back. "What is the nature of your business Mr.__? " "Jaquar

Our Precocious Little Darlings It is hard to suppress the truth. It is even harder in a six year old. In my latest Patrica Peppersnout story (find it in this month’s Shanti Sun Magazine! Shantisun.joomag.com) Patricia’s truth is spilling out of her in spite of Mom’s efforts. And so it is. Why teach the truth to children if they cannot share it with those they love and Trust? We all know about the importance of respect of course. Do you find that older generations ( and old fashioned people) tend to miss out on the freshness of Youth by insisting on rigid standards of respect? Quite frankly I’ve had to tell my young ones that you have to be careful especially when talking to the elderly, challenging their Idea of the status quo is just not the way to get along and may not be their job. It may not be mine either. A wise and enlightened elder in my community told my youngest that like Super heroes, we may have to keep some powers and
